The One Stop Shop route
A One Stop Shop is an SEAI-registered company that applies for the grants, manages the whole upgrade and takes the grants off your invoice, so you don't pay them upfront. It's for a bigger upgrade: the home must be built and occupied before 2011, start at a BER of B3 or lower, and finish at B2 or better.
What a One Stop Shop does, who it suits, and how it compares with applying for the cavity wall grant yourself.
Free, no obligation. One registered installer prices it, not five.
- B3 → B2the BER before and after
- 100kWh/m²/yr improvement, at least
- €350grant for the Home Energy Assessment
- Upfrontgrants off your invoice

What it does
The One Stop Shop starts with a Home Energy Assessment, which has its own grant of €350, then plans the upgrade, applies for the grants, manages the installers and arranges the final BER. The grants are paid to the One Stop Shop and deducted on your invoice.
Who it suits
To use the route, the home has to move from a BER of B3 or lower to at least B2, with an improvement of 100 kWh/m²/yr or more on the BER's primary energy figure. That usually means several measures, not cavity wall insulation on its own. The individual grant has no minimum BER: for just the walls and the attic, applying yourself is the simpler route.
Check your cavity wall grant
Four quick taps. You see your grant as you go, then what the job typically costs after it, the BER and your next step. Your number is only asked for at the end, if you want a price.
A semi-detached built before 2011, no earlier wall grant: a €1,300 grant, and the job typically costs €1,585, so about €285 is left to pay.
How this is worked out
SEAI pays a fixed cavity wall grant for each house type, and a higher fixed amount to homeowners on certain welfare payments and to landlords with a HAP or RAS tenant. The typical cost is the median price of cavity wall insulation for your house type across thousands of grant-funded jobs, and the post-works BER is its median price less its own grant. Your installer prices your walls after a look: it's a guide to plan with, never a quote. SEAI decides every grant.

Questions people ask
What is an SEAI One Stop Shop?
An SEAI-registered company that manages a whole home energy upgrade, applies for the grants and deducts them from your invoice.
Can a One Stop Shop just do my cavity walls?
The One Stop Shop route needs the home to finish at B2 or better from B3 or lower, so it suits a bigger upgrade. For cavity walls alone, the individual grant is simpler.
Do I pay the grant amount upfront with a One Stop Shop?
No. The grant is paid to the One Stop Shop and deducted on your invoice.
